HISTORY of Natural Pet Products

It all started in the 1980's after the first generation owners of Natural Pet Products' family dog suddenly passed away, all due to the use of a widely used chemical based flea spray. This loss quickly birthed a personal led mission to find natural ways to care for their pets. As you probably know, 40 something years ago the internet wasn't publicly available yet, so countless hours of research were spent at the public library, desperately looking for solutions. During their search they came across many different articles, books and research papers that focused on using Holistic Herbs, Natural Ingredients & old Native American recipes that were passed down many generations to treat various issues in both pets and humans.

Did you know that both vinegar and garlic have deep historical roots in traditional medicine across ancient civilizations?

Vinegar was prized for its digestive properties and other medicinal uses. Ancient Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks utilized vinegar not only as a preservative and condiment but also as a health tonic. Hippocrates, the Greek physician, recommended vinegar for various ailments, including digestive issues, wounds, and respiratory problems.

Garlic, on the other hand, has been recognized for millennia as a potent medicinal herb in both humans and animals. Its immunity-boosting and disease-fighting properties were well-documented across many cultures. Ancient Egyptians believed in its power to enhance strength and endurance, which is why it was fed to slaves and workers. Similarly, soldiers in Greece and Rome consumed garlic for vitality and protection against infections. In ancient Indian texts, garlic is referred to in the context of Ayurveda, where it was used to treat conditions like arthritis, heart disease, and infections. In China, garlic was a common remedy for respiratory issues and digestive health.

Both vinegar and garlic's longevity in human culture underscores their importance in traditional health practices across diverse civilizations.

After a period of careful experimentation looking for the perfect combination of ingredients to ensure its effectiveness, while also maintaining the safety of ingredients for all animals, finally in 1984 they created a combination that worked! Guided by their deep commitment to enhancing the well-being of their own animals and their profound love for all living beings, they recognized the importance of sharing their formula within the community in hopes that it saves more pets lives. Since then they have helped millions of pets all over the United States, even shipping to select areas outside the US.

But what is the confusion about garlic's safety for dogs? Garlic has been used for centuries in both human and animal medicine. It would take an insane amount of garlic to cause adverse effects for both animals, and humans! The confusion is largely based on a misinterpreted 2000 study where the participants were fed an extremely large dose of garlic and there were no definitive conclusions on the level of toxicity. And when we say an insane amount of garlic, no person or dog would willingly eat that amount of garlic in one sitting. Did you know that water (yes water!) for both humans and animals can be toxic if over ingested? The same principle applies for garlic. Since that misinformed study was published there have been many more studies debunking the toxic claim and many scientists have revised their earlier recommendations to advocate for the use of garlic.
